A beginners guide to the cello Part 5 – Seating position

Sit on a chair that allows you to sit with the legs in an angle of 90 degrees. Try to sit as close to the edge as possible – of course without falling. Sit up straight, and relax your shoulders. Your feet should be placed flat on the floor. This will help you create a stable seating position. Have your toes and knees point in the same direction (this will protect your knee joints). Place the cello between the knees, and let the top of the body (of the cello) rest against your sternum. The neck of the cello should be on the left side of your head, and the scroll should be just behind your ear.
