A beginners guide to the cello Part 4 – Accessories

There are a few things that will come in handy, when you play the cello:

– Rosin to for the bow (without it the cello won’t make a sound). I recommend the cello rosin from Pirastro.

– An endpin stopper. This would protect your floor, but also prevent the cello from sliding. I recommend the type that has a strap and a few holes. The extra holes makes it easier to set up, and the strap makes it more secure. The ones without a strap, has a tendency to slide – even the ones that promises not to.

– A music stand to hold the sheet music.

– A tuner to help you tune the cello at home. A tuner app on a smart phone works great.

– A metronome to help you keep the tempo while practicing. An app works great here as well.

– Small round stickers 0.25 inch size. Place them on the fingerboard to help with correct finger placement. Have a teacher help you with this.

Next week we will go over the seating position/how to sit with your cello.

Love, live, play!
